St. Thomas is a shopping haven for tourists. St. John’s shopping isn’t much, but what’s here is interesting. This is the reason why St. John is called the unspoiled island of the Caribbean and has some of the best beaches. It’s known for its beautiful beaches and down-to-earth atmosphere for people to unwind, but there is always a need to bring back a gift from St. John. Look no further than below at various choices on the island.
The boutiques and shops of Cruz Bay are individualized and quite special. Most shops are clustered at Mongoose Junction (North Shore Rd., Cruz Bay), in a woodsy area beside the roadway, about a 5-minute walk from the ferry dock.
Before you leave the island, you’ll want to visit the recently expanded Wharfside Village, which Laurie’s parents (Maurice & Beverly Poulin) contributed to development in the St. John community, just a few steps from the ferry departure point. This complex of courtyards, alleys, and shady patios is a mishmash of boutiques, along with some restaurants, fast-food joints, and bars.
When You’re Not on the Beach, Let’s Shop
Wharfside Village
Wharfside Village is a unique collection of shops, restaurants, bars, galleries, and water sports centers nestled at the foot of the ferry dock in Cruz Bay, the heart of St. John. Colorful terra cotta tile roofs, flowing tile-covered waterside walkways, vibrantly-colored Caribbean buildings and shutters, flowing bougainvillea, and breathtaking views of one the most spectacular bays in the world greet you as you arrive at the finest of the three US Virgin Islands. It is like no other place in the world. The merchants are friendly, the drinks are tall and cool, and the sunset is spectacular every night! Come see for yourself.
Mongoose Junction
Mongoose Junction is St John’s premier collection of fashionable shops and restaurants in a unique architectural and tropical setting unmatched in the Virgin Islands and possibly the entire Caribbean. Visitors consider us one of St. John’s favorite attractions after our National Park and beaches.
The Marketplace
The Marketplace offers a wide variety of things everyone needs. South Shore Road, just outside Cruz Bay. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the Marketplace Shopping Center from the ferry dock, where you’ll find a Scotia Bank, the island’s largest supermarket, Starfish Market, and Sam & Jack’s Deli. The Marketplace is also home to the island’s only drug store, Chelsea, and St. John Hardware. It also houses the island’s only book store and a handful of shops and restaurants.
Bamboo Studio
It’s this island lifestyle that has become a way to express our creativity. We create each piece to reflect the simple things we treasure. When you wear our jewelry, we hope it transports you to an island state of mind and reminds you of your favorite island memories. – Chad & Shae
